Ilia beauty lipsticks and founder sasha plavic

Our hypothetical ‘desert island beauty capsule’ is constantly in flux, but there’s one thing we’d dare not get lost without: ILIA Beauty’s signature tinted lip conditioner — a flawlessly layerable, hydrating blast of color that would instantly make us feel more Ginger, less Mary Ann.

There’s not a natural beauty short list out there that doesn’t contain a nod to ILIA. The sexy, sleek and non-toxic makeup products became instant classics when Sasha Plavsic launched the brand in 2011.

We asked Sasha to join our Green Goddess Guide series, where we explore the daily routines and fave products of our most loved beauty pros. Sasha’s responses are full of business wisdom and great green beauty guidance we can all learn from…

Can’t travel without…

Our new Cucumber Water Stick and my big Faliero Sarti scarf.

In a pinch I…

Can have a shower and do my makeup quick! Have had to learn with a two year old.

Obsession of the moment:

Your Daily Mix on Spotify with lots and lots of French music. I am getting some inspiration for our new Lipstick collection launching next year…

Beautifying snack/meal:

Lately, I have started eating sauerkraut. It’s amazing for the gut as a probiotic – and we all need more probiotics than we think we need. This makes it easy, and real, outside of taking something in a pill form.

Beautifying drink:

There is a juice place around the corner from our office, which makes an amazing beet and carrot juice. Beets are great for the liver and carrot juice does wonders for the eyes, hair and skin, with vitamins A and C.

Always in my evening clutch:

Our Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Knights, my I.D, Amex and, if I am lucky I’ll remember a tampon for those times when we are caught by what is not really a surprise.

For ultra-glamorous effect:

Beautiful skin is the place to start, then emphasize your features. I am not a fan of contouring, yet using our bronzer Sway in the right places, especially during the summer season, will bring life to the skin with a beautifully beachy glow. Adding a pop of color to the lips completes an understated look of glamour that is fresh and real.

Perfect pout:

It depends what you are looking for – soft or bold. It’s important to start with a fresh base by exfoliating your lips with Balmy Nights as this will set the stage for whatever your heart desires. I usually push for something bold and slightly outside the comfort zone.

Weirdest beauty habit:

The 5 Tibetan Rites. It’s a series of five yoga exercises that help awaken the body and mind in the morning and is practiced daily by Tibetan monks, which they refer to as the fountain of youth. Best part is that it only takes 10 minutes.

On my bedside table…

Three books that I keep going back to: The Diamond Cutter by Geshe Michael Roach, which is a beautiful book that is more about life than business; Mastering the Rockefeller Habits, which is a must-read for people wishing to start and grow a business; Getting There by Gillian Zoe Segal, which was given to me by my friend and is a good reminder to read little segments on those days that are tough.

Beauty tool:

Tools and products are like relationships – some work together really well and others don’t. Our Perfecting Buff Brush works with just about any of our complexion or Multi-Stick items to blend the product into the skin seamlessly.

After a long-night or rough weekend…

I use our Cucumber Water Stick all day! And make an effort to eat well, stay hydrated, take my Cell-Food (you must try this), and get more sleep the following night.

Once a month I…

I go get a mani/pedi with an amazing neck massage. The goal is to go every three weeks, and as someone who has a lot less time post-kid, I appreciate it more than anything in the world.

In the shower I keep…

Dr. Bronner’s Soap, a Venus razor, Rahua shampoo and conditioner, Lise’s toothbrush and toothpaste by Weleda.

On little sleep I rely on…

My adrenaline, because with a business and baby there isn’t time for a nap.

The product that changed my skin…

Nuface – microcurrent works.

Most treasured beauty tip…

It’s nothing special, but it certainly works: sleep.

For glowing skin…

Squalane oil – Indie Lee has a great one. Doesn’t make skin oily and adds great elasticity to the skin, which is very important with aging.
