With many of our international travel plans laid up lately, we’re living vicariously through our Studio Tour features more than ever before.

Ceramicist, Marta Bonilla lives and works in Barcelona, Spain and creates the kinds of pieces we’re dreaming of this spring. Earthy, modern, architectural, and totally cool.

NAME: Marta Bonilla

MY STUDIO IS IN… Barcelona

WHAT I MAKE: Ceramics

TO GET THE CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING I…Nourish myself with the things I like makes me feel more connected to myself, a good reading, a good movie, music, a museum, art or landscapes that relax me, like my house in the country surrounded by olive trees.

DAILY NECESSITY: Spending time with my son.

CURRENTLY READING: La (Des) Educación – Noam Chomsky

ORGANIZATIONAL ITEM I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: My agenda / notebook,  I write down and organize my tasks every day. And many ideas are drawn on it.

WHEN I’M NOT IN THE STUDIO I AM… Now is a very special moment, due to the Covid restrictions. So we spend more time at home as a family.

Favorite object in the studio: Some tools bought in Japan.

3 resources/books inspiring me now:Miguel Milá, design and other things in life, Cesar Manrique The Word On, Alex Fernandez De Castro, THE MASIA. A LOOK FOR MRS HEMINGWAY

Soundtrack in the studio: Karen Dalton “In my own Time”

Favorite spots in the neighborhood: Currently the Parc de la Ciutadella is our favorite spot in the neighborhood

Other artists inspiring me right now: Instagram accounts like Pocoapoco inspire me for their project and images. Others related to decoration, such as Beau-Traps, as well as the work of Mamita Botanical, and all the natural beauty advice that she provides us.

My art supply obsession: Different wooden pottery tools. Many art books that I love and would like to have, by artists that I like such as Picasso, Matisse or Miró among others.

My favorite current project is: I have been working on a personal furniture project for several years.

Favorite art galleries / museums in the city: Picasso Museum, Alzueta Gallery, Fundació Llorens Artigas
