We love us a good cup of coffee: the piping hot brew, the rich aroma, the way it picks us up when we’re feeling the midday slump, even the simple ritual of our daily coffee run brings us joy. Yet, sometimes, we can go a little overboard. Some Monday mornings we find ourselves four cups deep, jittery and wondering why we’re feeling so mysteriously wired. A few too many cups of coffee coupled with the stressors of everyday life and you’ve got a recipe for adrenal fatigue.

Here’s the deal: your adrenal glands control your hormones, and when your hormones are out of balance, so is everything else: your mood, weight, emotional state, energy levels and everything else that determines if you’re feeling high on life or down in the dumps.

As much as we hate to admit it, guzzling down multiple cups of caffeine can exacerbate any adrenal issues. To help get our buzzing bods back into balance, we enlisted holistic health guru Ashley Neese to create this adrenal tonic with Sun Potion’s Tocos, one of our favorite adrenal-saving superfoods ever. Grab your blender and slowly back away from the espresso machine…

  1. Hi Ashley,
Which sources do you use for your cacao powder, cordyceps and rhodiola? I’m so excited to try this!

    thank you!

    • Hey Erin!
Thanks for writing. I get my cordyceps and rhodiola from Sun Potion, they are the best! They have a cacao blend as well that is really good, but for just plain cacao I like Vivapura brand.

  2. This uses a lot of ingredients that I do not have on hand. Is the main thing to add in just the tocos? How important are cordyceps, ashwagandha and rhodiola? Also, are these supplements safe for breastfeeding? Would love to drop my coffee habit.

    • Hi Julie, we recommend using all of the ingredients for the full effects, but feel free to experiment! This being said, cordyceps, ashwagandha and rhodiola are adaptogens and are important in the tonic to support energy and strength. As for breastfeeding inquiries you should definitely consult with your doctor or medical practitioner to see what’s right for you.

    • Hey Julia,
Great to hear from you. The main ingredients in the recipe for adrenal health and energy are the cordyceps, ashwagandha and rhodiola. The tocos give it a vitamin E boost and make the tonic creamy. Check with your medical advisor about these herbs during breastfeeding, they are for sure safe afterwards! All my best.
